Appreciation Day?
To foster increased awareness of the vital role Sunday
School plays in the life of the local church; and to
honor and recognize the 15 million Sunday School teachers
who dedicate themselves to teaching the Word of God
to children, youth and adults. When is
Sunday School Teacher Appreciation Day celebrated
and when
did it begin?
Launched by Gospel Light in 1993, Sunday
School Teacher Appreciation Day is celebrated
on the third Sunday in October. What
is the Sunday School Teacher of the Year Award?
An integral part of Sunday School Teacher
Appreciation Day is the national search
for the Sunday School Teacher of the Year.
This award was established in honor of Dr. Henrietta
Mears—a famous Christian educator who founded
Gospel Light and influenced the lives of such well-known
and respected Christian leaders as Bill and Vonette
Bright, Dr. Billy Graham, Dr. Richard Halverson, Dale
Evans Rogers and
many more. Churches across America are invited
to honor their favorite Sunday School teachers by nominating
them for this award. What
do the Sunday School Teacher of the Year and
the Top-10
finalists receive?
The Sunday School Teacher of the Year
receives a dream vacation for two to Hawaii, free curriculum
and resources for their Sunday School class. His or
her church receives a $500 gift certificate from Gospel
Light, which may be redeemed for Sunday School or VBS
curriculum, Regal books, teaching resources, videos
and more. Each Top-10 finalist receives special
gifts and recognition from Gospel Light and Christian
Teacher’s Aid. The finalists' churches also
receive Gospel Light gift certificates ranging in value
from $100–$500.
How is the Sunday School Teacher of the Year selected?
All nominees are judged on their dedication to teaching
the Word of God, their innovation, creativity and the
degree of personal involvement with their students.
What
are the rules for nominating a teacher for the Sunday
School Teacher of the Year?
Any individual who is currently teaching or has taught
Sunday School for a minimum of two years and who is
living is eligible. Gospel Light employees, consultants
and their family members are not eligible. Past recipients
of the first-place award are ineligible, as well as
employees and family members of organizations providing
prizes for this award. When
are nominations due?
Nominations must be received at Gospel Light by 5:00
pm Pacific Time on August 31.
